The most significant part of your business is making sure that your customers get what they order and if you do not want to store, pack, and ship everything yourself, then you will want to obtain the services of fulfillment services. A fulfillment service will handle all the logistics that are required in regards to what you sell, but what is the best way to decide if a certain fulfillment service is right for your business of not?

Before you decide on a Fulfillment companies to work with there is some question you will want to get answered including:

Are they equipped to handle Your Products?

Depending on what it is you will be selling will depend greatly on the fulfillment service you will want to go with. If you are dealing with fragile items, you will want to be sure that the service that you are considering can store, pack, and ship your items safely without breaking them.

Will they be Able to Control Your Volume?

This is the point where you want to take a look at the actual facilities of the service if you can. Even if you can’t you have to ascertain whether or not the fulfillment company will be able to control the number of items that you sell on a regular basis. If you have a high volume of goods sold each day and they cannot keep up with the shipments, then they do you little good.

How Much Responsibility will they assume?

If there is loss or damage to your items, what level of responsibility will the fulfillment service take? Many will take none, and some will take partial or full, and cost can be a big part of that factor. However, saving a few bucks does you no good if you are losing lots of money due to lost, stolen, or damaged items.

Reliability:
Ask the fulfillment service that you are considering to furnish you with some references. Call the references and get their experience with the service. Any good fulfillment service will be more than happy to give this information to you so that you will be able to see how great their services are. If they have no references available, then you may want to reconsider whom you deal with.
The cost of Services:
While certainly not the first item to check off, you will at one point or another want to determine what all the costs involved will be.
  • Will they charge you for items that get shipped back?
  • Will the charge you for packaging and a handling?
Be sure you know exactly what you will be paying and never assume that something is included in the first price you hear.
Your business will not run smoothly nor continue to thrive if at the end of the day your customers are not satisfied. Only by working with a fulfillment service that meets all the requirements of your business can you ensure this. While it does require some homework on your part, it is well worth doing if it means that your customers will be satisfied hen it is all said and done.
